Daphne Rubin-Vega at Joe’s Pub, Jan 2006... Daphne Rubin-Vega is a superstar. She’s conquered Broadway, Film, and Music. I had the chance to see Daphne perform live at Joe’s Pub in New York City’s East Village as she debut songs from her forthcoming second album. Her fans have been eagerly awaiting the follow up to her debut album. Daphne’s voice is strong and powerful. Keep your eyes out for Daphne’s star to continue its rise!

Stars in the Alley 2005 ... Every June Broadway stars gather in New York City’s Shubert Alley (the alley between 44th & 45th Street right next to the Shubert Theatre) for the free concert known as “Stars in the Alley” where the public gets to see a sampling of what’s on Broadway. At this year’s show I had the finally got to meet Andrea Martin, known widely as the aunt from the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” (but I had seen here 3 years earlier live on stage in the Broadway production “Oklahoma”).

Diva’s I’ve Done ... The Summer of 2005 was a delightful one. After seeing Tom D’Angora, the star of this wonderful show in May at the Leading Men Concert, I finally got the chance to see this one man show. It’s a celebration of the DIVAS he admires. Just who are some of these DIVAS, well, they are the one and only Ellen Greene star of the Off-Broadway and movie “Little Shop of Horrors”, Fran Drescher known to most as “The Nanny” , Marla Schaffel, the Tony-nominated leading actress in “Jane Eyre”, “The Golden Girls”, Liza Minelli, Broadway star Maya Days, and countless others. The highlight of the show was Tom’s parody of “Somewhere That’s Green”, renamed “Somewhere That’s Pink.”

Delta Burke ... When most people think of Delta Burke, they think of “Designing Women” where she played “Suzanne Sugarbaker” for 5 years. Now Delta is taking the theatre world by storm. She just started a stint in the Tony Award winning production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” as “Mrs. Meers.” After waiting 45 minutes at the stage door, Delta finally made her exit and apologized for taking so long. She can sing, she can dance, she can act and I love my picture with her!

Altar Boyz 2005 ... This show first premiered at the 2004 New York Music Festival in New York City. I was one of the privileged few who got to see the amazing Cheyenne Jackson play the lead role of “Matthew.” The show is about the rise of a Christian Boy Band touring the world trying to save one soul at a time. Alongside Cheyenne was Tyler Maynard as “Mark”, Andy Karl as “Luke”, and David Josefsberg as “Abraham”. When this show transferred from the NYMF festival to Off-Broadway in 2005, Cheyenne did not continue as he was heading up the cast of “All Shook Up”. In his place, Scott Porter played the role of “Matthew.” This is a fun, energetic, song remembering show and you leave feeling good. No matter what your religious background is, you will love this show!

Ad-Liberty June 20 & July 4, 2005 ... Tony-nominee John Tartaglia who created the role of “Princeton/Rod” in the Tony Award winning show “Avenue Q” performed his one-man show “Ad-Liberty” for a sold-out crowd at Joe’s Pub located in New York City’s East Village. John knows how to put on a show. Opening with his own rendition of “YMCA” by the Village People, he then gave us an evening of song even using various character voices from Sesame Street, South Park and the Muppets. He even paid homage to the 80s TV show “Kids, Inc.” singing the one and only Debbie Gibson’s 80s anthem “Only In My Dreams.”

All Shook Up, April & June 2005 ... Elvis was alive and well on Broadway in 2005. Maybe not “The King” himself, but his music sure was in the hit musical “All Shook Up” starring the sensational Cheyenne Jackson, alongside Jenn Gambatese, Mark Price, Leah Hocking, Nikki M. James, and show-stopping songstress Sharon Wilkins (belting out “There’s Always Me”). This show is such a fun time and the cast has an energy like no other. Take a peek at me getting cozy with the cast.

Cyndi Lauper at Westbury Music Fair, Dec 2005 ... December in New York can be a magical time of year. Magic certainly was happening at Westbury Music Fair on December 5, 2005 when the legendary Cyndi Lauper took to the stage with none other than famed comedian Sandra Bernhard as an opening act. Sandra certainly got the crowd raring to go for Cyndi (though Cyndi doesn’t really need an opening act to get the audience going). Sandra Bernhard is dynamic in her own way with her special brand of comedy and song. Yes, Sandra can sing with the best of them as was so wonderfully demonstrated during her set. Cyndi Lauper gave her fans a rip-rocking performance as she sang songs from her most recent release “The Body Acoustic,” an acoustic retrospective of her career with 2 new songs “Above The Clouds” and “I’ll Be Your River.” Cyndi exuberated energy and her usual fanfare of stories, but what makes Cyndi so mesmerizing is her delivery, so stories you might have heard before sound new each time she tells them. What separates Cyndi from the rest is her dedication to her fans. Cyndi takes a live show to another level when during various songs she leaves the stage and comes running into the audience, taking people’s hand or climbing on top of them to stand on their seats. Some of the songs performed during this show, “Change of Heart”, “True Colors”, “She Bop” (a wonderful slow version), “Time After Time”, “Sisters of Avalon” and Cyndi’s latest hit “Above The Clouds” which is so enchanting it sends chills throughout your body. If you have never been to a Cyndi concert before, the next time she is in town, treat yourself to an evening you won’t forget.

Dolly Parton... To meet a legend is an experience not many get, but I did. I had the most fortunate opportunity to meet the one and only Dolly Parton. Not many people have accomplished half of what Dolly has in her lifetime thus far. Musician, actress, author, and most of all humanitarian. July 2002, Dolly Parton has just released her 3rd Blue Grass album “Halos and Horns” and embarking on her first full tour in 10 years. It’s definitely a time to remember. To celebrate the release, Dolly held a CD signing at the Virgin Megastore in New York City’s Time Square. After waiting 2 hours, it was my turn to meet Dolly. Not only did she sign my CD, but I also was able to take a picture with her. I finally got the chance to tell her how her movie “Straight Talk” got me interested in pursuing a career in radio/entertainment. She was very moved by that. She is one of the nicest and most genuine people alive.

Alicia Minshew & Rebecca Budig’s 2005 Fan Club Party … It’s that time of year, the third weekend in August when the “All My Children” fan club hosts their annual luncheon and many individual stars have their own fan club party as well. Two leading ladies from “All My Children” did just that. Alicia Minshew “Kendall Hart” and Rebecca Budig “Greenlee Dupree” hosted their fan club party in New York City. They had a question and answer session and an autograph signing session for 75 lucky fans fortunate enough to attend. Here are some picture highlights of the party! Enjoy…

Bobbie Eakes Signing … In June 2005, I had the pleasure of going to Tower Records on 66th & Broadway in New York City to see one of Daytime’s biggest stars, Bobbie Eakes, who plays “Krystal Carey (now Chandler)” on ABC’s “All My Children,” perform a few selections live from her debut CD “Something Beautiful”. Bobbie’s voice is enchanting, seductive, and soulful. Bobbie has the gift of belting a note just at the right time. Some of the songs performed were “No More Lonely Nights” and “Something Beautiful.” Bobbie also took time to greet her fans and sign copies of her CD. As an added bonus some of Bobbie’s “All My Children” co-stars were in attendance: James Scott “Ethan Ramsey”, Chrishell Stause “Amanda Dillon”, and Terri Ivens “Simone Torres”. It was a great time had by all!

Prohibition Charity Event … A little know fact about Daytime stars is the tireless amount of time they give to raise money for charities close to their heart. In March 2005, stars from “All My Children” came together to raise money for charity at Prohibition Bar located on Columbus Avenue in New York City. Those in attendance: Thorsten Kaye “Zach Slater”, Justin Bruening “Jamie Martin”, Alexa Havins “Babe Carey (now Chandler), Jacob Young “J.R. Chandler”, and James Scott “Ethan Ramsey.” The highlight of the evening was the 30 second slapping scene I filmed with Terri Ivens. Watch and enjoy!
