The 4400
From The 4400 Wiki, a fan encyclopedia that anyone can edit.
The 4400 are a group of exactly four thousand, four hundred people who were deposited in the Cascade Range foothills near Mount Rainier in Washington state on August 14, 2004. They are made up of people of all ages, races, and nationalities, yet all share one thing in common -- they all had disappeared at various points starting from 1946 in a beam of white light. After their return, none have aged, all are disoriented, and they remember nothing between the time of their disappearance and their return. To handle this phenomenon, the U.S. government formed an agency called the National Threat Assessment Command (NTAC) within the Department of Homeland Security specifically to deal with the 4400.
These 4,400 were not abducted by extraterrestrials as many thought, but instead by people from Earth's distant future, and they were returned in order to prevent some sort of catastrophe. While in the future, they were altered to produce a new neurotransmitter that had been dubbed "promicin." This neurotransmitter gives the 4400 their paranormal abilities, such as telekinesis, telepathy, precognition, as well as other gifts that are even stranger.
When certain NTAC officials first found out about this, they were afraid of what this large group would do with such power. In response, they secretly dosed all 4400 with a promicin inhibitor which worked on the majority of the group, but not those who were later seen with powers. The inhibitor caused a potentially fatal immune deficiency as a side effect in the returnees. It was ultimately removed from the 4400 by an antibody developed from the blood of the infant Isabelle Tyler, who was never given the drug.
Recently, as a result of the Jordan Collier and several of his associates, thousands of vials of promicin have been released into the public, which will inevitably give thousands of people 4400 abilities.
